Ribbon-Cutting: Aria Salon in Grosse Pointe Woods

Officials from Grosse Pointe Woods and the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce celebrated Aria Salon this week during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Co-owners of Aria Salon James Orlando and Dmitriy Pomogalov celebrated their business this week with officials from and the .

The salon opened on Mack Avenue nearly a year ago, Orlando said, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week.

Aria is located at 20527 Mack Ave. housed another salon previously. Orlando and Pomogalov gutted the building and started anew, they said, explaining they wanted to make the environment relaxing.

The front portion of the salon houses stations generally used for cutting and styling hair. A free-standing coat closet separates the first section from the middle section, which contains no mirrors, Orlando pointed out. This is where the stylists color and highlight hair--a look no one enjoys seeing, hence no mirrors, Orlando said.

In the back of the business, there is a small individual room for anyone wishing to have privacy because of the treatment they are receiving or some other reason, Orlando explained.

The co-owners have known each other for years and first met at Aria Salon when it was on the Hill a few decades ago, Orlando said. Both have since worked in various salons throughout the Pointes. Orlando said he's opened, operated and worked in the Grosse Pointes for more than 40 years. The pair decided to go into business together a couple of years ago and re-open Aria Salon, he said.

Grosse Pointe Woods Mayor Robert Novitke, city administrator Al Fincham, Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce representatives Jennifer Boettcher and MaryJo Harris joined in the celebration this week during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The salon offers all of the typical hair services in addition to waxing. Hours and stylists can be found on the salon's website.

John: Get a life. Nobody's dissing anybody. We're all just pulling each other's chains.. Relax. Just because somebody appointed you to the Politeness Police you don't have to get your Jockeys in a bunch. Hey, good luck to Aria. Looking forward to moving all my Brazilian business there.

Pete Waldmeir, I just wanted to thank you for once again showing this community what a class act you are. Bullying and name calling is synonymous with your name. REMEMBER this people when he spews his lies and garbage. I would think someone like yourself in his early 90's would try and make the best of his last few years on this earth. Those meals on wheels and newspapers you passed out may not be enough to cross those pearly gates after all the lies, hatred and distrust you have lived your life by......I will pray for you

Seriously dude...the Mayor shows up for a nice civic event and you have to turn it into a "he should be cutting taxes instead of ribbons" rant. We all get it, you dislike the "mayor-for-life". sheesh, just let the salon have their moment in the spotlight and please keep your agenda out of it. I hope the salon does well and lives a long, profitable life, the empty store fronts seem to be popping up like weeds this summer.

Hey, Mr. Hetzler. Does this ghetto trash talker get a pass with insults like this?
John Hetzler July 30, 2012 at 11:31 PM
Once again, everyone: Please stay on topic and please be nice.
