Ribbon-Cutting: Crowther Carpet & Rugs

Grosse Pointe Woods and Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce officials celebrate the grand-opening of the new location for Crowther Carpet and Rugs with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After four months of being closed during a relocation that happened rather unexpectedly, Kevin Crowther is happy to be open again--this time in a new storefront on Mack Avenue in .

Crowther, the owner of , in the following an .

The arson, which remains under investigation, followed a series of burglaries at the business, and Crowther said this week he believes if somone was angry enough to set that business on fire, they are likely to return.

As a result of the arson, Crowther lost $40,000 in merchandise he discovered was underinsured. He immediately began searching for another storefront, settling fairly quickly upon the in Grosse Pointe Woods.

After moving out of the former location and sprucing up the new location, Crowther is open for business at 19483 Mack Ave. The space is about 500 square-feet smaller than the former location, but Crowther said it is a more open space because it does not have large beams throught the middle of the store.

Additionally, he's already noticed more pedestrian traffic. Many passersby stopped in to the new location long before it was ready while he was completing renovation work, he said.

The store hours are: 9:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 9:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
