The office will serve southern Macomb County and eastern Wayne County including the Grosse Pointes, Roden said. As a company they already had clients in the Grosse Pointe area, she said, so opening a second office is intended to help better serve those customers and let potential new clients know this service is available. She also likes the convenient location to I-94 and 696, she said.

Her father's battle with Alzheimer's is what led Roden to become an owner of a Senior Helpers, she said, recalling how there wasn't a service then that would allow for only a few hours of help a week.

"They all required three to four days," she said, noting how the help was necessary to give her mother a break.

Senior Helpers employs caregivers with a variety of experience. They aim to match seniors with caregivers who not only have the appropriate level of skill for the service requested but also on a personal level.

Each caregiver is personally introduced to a requesting senior and then staff checks back in with the senior to see if he or she liked their caregiver, Roden said. If not, another is assigned.

Senior Helpers offers the following services:

  • meal preparation
  • housekeeping
  • personal care, including showering/toileting help
  • administration of medications

If a senior is receiving care from a skilled nurse, Senior Helper caregivers are also able to assist with:

  • feeding tubes
  • wound care
  • IVs

Four employees will work out of the Grosse Pointe office, which can also be used for pre-screening, training and meetings with caregivers, who work mostly in the seniors' homes.

Senior Helpers is about a block away from the. It needed to relocate as its former location has been demolished to make room for the .
