Robusto's Martini Lounge Closes Unexpectedly

The popular martini bar on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods was last open for business Saturday and the owners have since moved out of the building, much to the surprise of customers.

A 'For Lease' sign is already hanging in the window of the former , which closed and moved out essentially overnight Saturday much to the surprise of customers.

In addition to signature martinis, Robusto's often had live music. News of the popular nighttime hotspot's closure has spread through the community quickly this week.

The building has clearly been emptied and vacated. Most notable to passing motorists is likely the missing Rubusto's signage.

Patch is awaiting return calls from the owners of the bar and from the owner of the building.

Upon calling Robusto's phone Thursday, Patch was greeted with a message thanking patrons for 12 years of memories and fun. The message also asks customers to "stay tuned" hinting about a future endeavor and telling customers to keep in touch on the Robusto's Facebook page.

In similar messages on the Facebook page, the owners hint at possible future endeavors and thank customers for their support.

They also explained briefly the closure with this statement: "...Due to the downturn in the economy, complications with the lease & other factors beyond our control, we must close our doors!! It is a bittersweet & heartfelt goodbye!!!..."

The owners also thank officials from , specifically naming the Department of Public Safety for their support and help during the 12 years.

Many of their followers on Facebook commented to express their sorrow about the closure but wishing the owners well. Others have asked questions about their hints and what they mean.
