A Weekend in Minneapolis

I spent an extended weekend in the Twin Cities.  I went up to visit a friend.  We went to the Gophers football game Saturday. We popped into my favorite pastor’s church on Sunday.  And we spent Monday rooting on our Tigers at Target field.  It could have been a clinch game, but we can thank the Sox for nixing that idea.  It was a wonderful time.  So what does this have to do with a real estate blog?

I am extremely jealous of Minneapolis and St Paul!  I am a lifelong metro Detroiter.  It’s all I know.  After spending 4 days up there, it left me feeling depressed, and wanting to move there honestly.  What a great city.  The economy is very diverse.  Minneapolis is home to many large corporations.  Companies like Target, TCF Bank, 3M, Buffalo Wild Wings all call the Twin Cities home.

I wish Detroit and the surrounding area was more like this.  Minneapolis is the metropolis of the midwest.  There are a million places to go,  and a million things to do.  I was amazed at how safe I felt everywhere in the city.  I spent time in Uptown,  Midtown and Downtown.  The city was extremely clean, and the people were extremely friendly.  I was sitting on an outdoor porch drinking a coffee watching a particular man clean up the streets.  I realized that he was doing this because he wanted to not because it was his job.  I asked him what he was doing, and his answer amazed me.  He told me it’s because he loves the city.  He said he wants to do his part in keeping the city beautiful.  I was shocked.  Now let me say this.  I know there  is a ton of positive things happening in Detroit right now.  I know that there are people out there trying to make the city great.  I hope to play a part in that.  But being in Minneapolis just made me realize how much work needs to be done here.  We have a long way to go.

The other shock to me was the average home price of $365,215.  That is a high end home around here.  I am currently doing a new build home for a client in Harrison Twp for 300k.  The home is 3,000 sq/ft with all the bells and whistles.  $365K in Minneapolis gets you an average colonial around 1200 sq/ft.  That is music to a Realtors ears!  I always loved our area.  I am extremely jealous of the Twin Cities.  I know we have the people to make Detroit great again.  I hope I can be part of it.  If your looking to sell a home…….buy A home…….invest in real estate…….start A career in real estate or…….talk about the Twin Cities contact me today!
