It's Dark In Here!

It’s that time of year.  You wake up in the dark and get home from work, and it’s……...dark.  I will say October thru the end of December is my favorite time of the year.  I love all the fall festivities, and of course Thanksgiving and Christmas are awesome!  It’s a great time of year the only thing I wish is that it wasn’t so darn dark.

Showing homes in the dark is no fun!  If bank owned foreclosures aren’t creepy enough, you add that they are now cold and dark.  It sounds like a recipe for success, doesn’t it?  Unfortunately, some foreclosed homes are never secured properly.  Sure there may be a lockbox on the front door, but it’s missing a basement window or some other window in the home.  I have been lucky as far as encountering squatters in a house.  It only happened once, and they left quickly.  But there are plenty of horror stories in this business.

Having said all that if your home is currently on the market and you have scheduled showings in the evening.  Leave some lights on would ya!  It is so much more inviting for a buyer to walk into a well lit home.  Of course,  there are advantages to the way the home looks with the lights on but it also keeps me from stepping on poor fluffy the kitty cats tail when I come trudging in!  You should have a plan for showing your home at night.  Make sure the coach lights on the garage are on.  Make sure the porch light is on. I instruct all my sellers to stage the home themselves.  Turn on table lamps etc.  You don’t want people fumbling around your house in the dark.  Timers are a nice option if you’re working late.  Also, Motion detector switches work well too!  There are all kinds of options.  Just don’t let us walk into a dark house.

If you need some help staging the house let me know!  I’d love to help!
