Knock Knock. Who's There? Squirrel. Squirrel Who?

A squirrel was at the front door, and he really looked like he wanted to come in. There were fresh-baked cookies, but still, I've never seen a Grosse Pointe squirrel be quite so forward.

"Mom, come look!"

"I'll be right there."

"Mooooooommmmmm."

He sat there, staring for about 5 minutes. This squirrel sat on my front porch in Grosse Pointe Woods, just staring at us.

I hate to be rude and not invite a neighbor in, or at least offer him something to eat. My daughter and our babysitter had just baked chocolate chip cookies, and the smell was rather tempting. But I don't think I want him to come back.

Someone on my Facebook page suggested our squirrels were quite daring in the Pointes. I don't know. This guy seemd quite cheeky, perhaps even nuts. (Yes, those are my bad squirrel puns.)

Have you seen a squirrel behave like this in the Pointes?

Yes! I have a picture similar to the one here. My three year old gets a kick out of them. (We do feed them in the wintertime)

Hilarious picture, I trust the journalistic integrity of Patch otherwise I'd say it was either photoshop or a stuffed animal.

I'm not that good with Photoshop!

The kids did get a kick out of it, but I had the nervous-mom "never let wild animals in the house" talk with them.

Please please do not feed the squirrels! Our neighbor behind us feeds them year round and our yard is overrun with them. They eat everything I try to plant in our flowerbeds, my potted flowers and dig holes throughout our yard. I can't let my small children eat on our patio anymore, as they will come right up to the picnic table while they are eating. In addition, feeding squirrels (rodents) invites other rodents (mice) which we also now have. My 4-year old daughter found 2 dead mice in our yard this summer - gross, not cute! If you want to feed something in the winter, feed the birds instead!

Patti I have an excellent solution for you. Get a solid air rifle and show those squirrels who is boss. It will help get rid of your pest problem and also get your children started learning valuable marksmanship skills that could be needed in their future.

Patti, I am a big fan of the Beretta CX-4. It's a carbine so its small size will be very easy for your children to wield with leathal effect. Another strong option is a crossbow, the Vatican banned those for a reason. Hope this helps and good hunting!

Robert, I've been a huge booster for Pointe Hardware. Their prices are either in-line or better thanRead More big box and their service is amazing. You could probably do a home remodel by just leaching free advice from them.

Don't go to Village Ace Hardware! It's terrible. I needed a fuse, a light bulb, and a furnaceRead More filter. They didn't have any of them.

I absolutely LOVE our local, in-the-park hardware store!! They have what I need, and their friendlyRead More staff know where to find what I need! I really can't stand the "new" Village Ace Hardware. Not only are the staff NOT friendly, but they don't even know their own stock...or much about everyday hardware needs :(

Really. Is it a big enough space? Will the 8 mile facility close?
