Fairy Tale Adventures Await Visitors on Idyllic Ford House Grounds

Ford House's landscape is transformed into a world filled with knights and princesses for the Storybook Discovery Trail, part of Fairy Tales at Ford House: A Grimm Celebration

Once upon a time, a family named Ford had a love of the arts as well as a passion for nature’s beauty. They built their home upon a wondrous and expansive landscape on the shores of Lake Saint Clair in Grosse Pointe Shores. Throughout the years, the family has shared the beauty of the landscape with the community. That tradition continues with the Storybook Discovery Trail, part of the Fairy Tales at Ford House: A Grimm Celebration.

Families are invited to embark on a fantastical journey on the Storybook Discovery Trail. It is based on two of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales: Little Red Cap, better known as Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel. The trails weave throughout the landscaped grounds allowing children of all ages to explore the beautiful and magical landscape.

They can choose their own adventure, stopping to smell the roses in the Rose Garden, wandering through Garden Lane, taking a step back in time walking past Maple Lane and discovering their imagination in the New Garden. Each trail has stops along the way at Josephine Ford’s Play House and the South Cottage.

Creative explorers enter the story of Little Red Riding Hood at Ford House. Along the way, discovery trunks are placed along the trail with activity stations, games and books allowing visitors to put themselves in the story. The tale of Little Red Riding Hood concludes at the South Cottage.

Continuing the fairy tale adventure through the grounds, visitors can place themselves in Hansel and Gretel’s shoes as they travel “over the river and through the woods” to the quiet, tranquil lagoon. As part of this discovery trail, children and families can create their own miniature fairy house.
