9/11 Remembrance, Events in the Grosse Pointes

Here is a list of events and observances scheduled in the Grosse Pointes for the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Events are happening across the country today on the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, including some in the Grosse Pointes. 

All five of the Grosse Pointes will participate in the national moment of rememberance scheduled for 1 p.m. The moment will be signaled by 30 seconds of emergency sirens sounding, according to City Administrator Al Fincham. 

Woods officials also asked all of the churches and religious organizations in the city to ring their bells at the same time to present a unified notice of the moment.

In addition to the first responders participation, area churches are offering services with a focus on the anniversary.

is offering a 5 p.m. 9/11 Vespers Service for the Community, during which Rev. Shelley Page will reflect upon the impact the attacks had on people around the world. 

Rev. David Dieter will lead services at on the 10-year anniversary with first hand knowledge of the attacks. Dieter was among the first clergy to respond to the still burning towers in the days after while he was a seminary student in New York City. He shared his experience with Patch

In honor of first reponders and U.S. military personnel, as well as all of the Andiamo locations, will donate 10 percent of its Sept. 11 sales to a local charity. Additionally, first responders and U.S. military personnel with proper identification can receive one free entree (up to $10 for lunch and up to $20 for dinner). 

There are several more events scheduled throughout the Detroit metropolitan area. going on throughout the day.
