Former Michigan Supreme Court Judge Sentenced to 1 Year in Jail

Diane Hathaway misled her bank during the short sale of her Gross Pointe home.

A judge sentenced Former Michigan Supreme Court Judge Diane Hathaway to one year in jail in a bank fraud case Tuesday.

Hathaway, who pleaded guilty in January to misleading her bank during a short sale of her Grosse Pointe home, will also pay $90,00 in restitution, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The 2011 sale on Hathaway's Grosse Pointe Park home erased the $664,000 balance of her mortgage. Prosecutors said she pleaded hardship while still possessing more than $1 million in assets, including a debt-free home in Florida, according to Yahoo news. The article stated that Hathaway and husband Michael Kingsley put the Florida home in a relative's name while dealing with ING Bank, then got the property back in their names in 2012.
