It's nearly the weekend and we have some ideas to fill in your calendar. This is just a highlight of what's available and we're sure there is more. Add more events below in the comments box. 


Where/When: Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe; 6 and 8:30 p.m. through May 14, and 10:30 p.m. May 13-14.
Why Go: See Rayse Biggs, known for his dual horn technique and for working with artists as varied as Kid Rock and Kem, play the Dirty Dog.
Pricing: No cover for May 12 performances or for 10:30 p.m. seatings. $10 cover and reservations required for 6 and 8:30 p.m. shows May 13-14.


Where/When: , 32 Lake Shore, Grosse Pointe; May 12-15 and May 18-21.
Why Go: The Grosse Pointe Theatre presents a swashbuckling musical, "The Scarlet Pimpernel." Enjoy an evening of heroes, heroines, bravery, intrigue and more. Musical is based on the works of Baroness Emmuska Orczy, with book and lyrics by Nan Knighton.
Pricing: $24.

Where/When: Grosse Pointe Board of Realtors; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 13-14.
Why Go: Shop for unique finds and support the GPBR. You'll be able to browse and purchase furniture, clothing, home decor, tools, books, toys and much more at this mega sale.
Pricing: Free to browse.


Where/When: Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave; 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. shows May 13.
Why Go: Enjoy extended hours at the DIA (10 a.m.-10 p.m.) on Fridays and Japanese drumming performances by Great Lakes Taiko, a drop-in tambourine workshop, and drawing in the galleries for all ages.
Pricing: Free for members; otherwise museum admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 youths 6-17, $5 for college students with ID, free for children 5 and under, Detroit residents (only on Fridays and with proof of ID).

Where/When: Lakefront Park; 10 a.m.-10 a.m. May 14-15.
Why Go: Join the fight against cancer. This event lasts for 24 hours to show that cancer never sleeps, and neither should our battle against it waver. Whether you walk or run the relay or remember those whose lives have been touched by cancer, there are many ways to help this cause.
