National Weather Service Warns of Wind Chill

The National Weather Service is warning residents of southeastern Michigan to use caution outside due to extremely cold temperatures and high winds. The combination of single digit temperatures and lower plus 10 to 20 mile per hour winds creates conditions that are 15 to 20 degrees below zero.

The frigid weather is expected to continue early Tuesday when the temperature will remain hovering near zero, according to a wind chill advisory in place until Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures reachig 7 to 12 degrees by Tuesday afternoon.

Anyone who must go outside is recommended to wear a hat and gloves in addition to other winter gear to avoid frost bite and hypothermia, according to the advisory issued Monday night. 

Not only do people have to use caution in such weather, but so do pets. Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society noted the death of a dog Monday suffering from hypothermia, according to the organization's Facebook page.

The dog had other health related problems but ultimately the organization was not able to help her because she could not regulate her temperature due to the hypothermia.

Temperatures will remain cold throughout the week with highest prediction being on Thursday at 24 degrees, according to the National Weather Service's forecast. Flurries are likely each day as well.
