Ring in the New Year, Grosse Pointers

Ah, 2012 is almost here, but before that last calendar page gets turned, we'll have some celebrating to do.

Some businesses are keeping it low-key, and others are getting more extravagent. Whatever your tastes, there's something out there for you.

Ralphe Armstrong at the Dirty Dog

  • When: 5-8 p.m. and 9 p.m.-2 a.m.
  • Pricing: $20 cover
  • Why Go: Bassist Ralphe Armstrong comes from a family of musicians, studied at Interlochen, and has played with the likes of D-12, James Carter and Curtis Mayfield. He'll bring his jazzy stylings (with hints of funk and hip-hop) to the Dirty Dog Jazz Café.

Marty Ballog Trio at Dylan's

  • Where:
  • When: 8 p.m.
  • Pricing: No cover
  • Why Go: The Marty Ballog Trio returns to Dylan's Rawbar & Grille to help ring in the new year with jazz favorites and some holidays standards perfect for saying good-bye to 2011 and saying hello to 2012.

Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds does not have anything formal planned, but they'll be making it festive, with party favors and a midnight toast.

Old Pointe Bar will host a band, serve food catered by Detroit BBQ Company, and hold a midnight toast. They're considering a package deal as well, where you pay one price to tide you through the night.

Hit the dance floor at Robusto's Martini Lounge and groove to live music.

Try Rustic Cabins where it'll be a relatively normal night; stop for a drink or two, have a bite to eat, and welcome 2012.

Sunrise Sunset Saloon will have a band, starting around 9 p.m., with a late-night buffet set out closer to midnight.

Ye Olde Tap Room will have several specials going on to ring in 2012. No cover charge.
