Doubt, A Parable is a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by John
Patrick Shanley, set in The Bronx, New York in 1964. Sister Aloysius is the superior of her convent and principal of St. Nicholas School. Based on a few pieces of circumstantial evidence, she suspects the personable pastor, Father Brendan Flynn, of sexual misconduct with an altar boy. Sister Aloysius embarks on a relentless campaign to determine the truth. This is a stirring and emotional examination of trust and judgment, with many twists and turns in the plot. The audience wrestles with the evidence, along with the characters, to determine what really happened. Doubt, A Parable is produced through the Purdon Studio Theatre, a performance arm of Grosse Pointe Theatre that features adult-content plays. Thursday-Saturday performances are at 8:00 pm. Sunday performances are at 2 pm. The play is directed by Lois Bendler of St.Clair Shores with cast members Kathleen Conlon of St. Clair Shores, Jerry Nehrof Grosse Pointe Woods, Kristen Schultes of Grosse Pointe Park and Diane Flint of Oak Park.
