Grosse Pointe South Band & Orchestra presents its annual Fall concert and fundraising event, Pops & Pastries, Friday, November 30 at 7pm. Please join us at the Main Gymnasium to welcome Christopher Takis in his inaugural concert as Director of Bands at South High School, with unlimited pastries, a tin-can auction and 50-50 raffle.
This year's theme, "A Salute to Disney," was chosen in conjunction with the music department's Spring trip to Disney Land, California. Proceeds will help reduce the cost of the trip and enable more performers to attend.
Musical highlights include selections from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, Up!, Beauty & the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Hannah Adams, South Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster, will be the featured violin soloist in Vivaldi’s Autumn from The Four Seasons.
Doors open at 6 pm. Come early to bid on tin-can auction items. Hot dogs and beverages are available for sale before the concert. Auction highlights include: 4 one-day Park Hopper passes to Disney World, Florida; 2 one-day unlimited 12-hour lift tickets to Boyne Highlands/Mountain; Ahee diamond and sterling necklace and a plethora of gift cards, services and accessories from generous area merchants such as American Cycle and Fitness Center, Lou's Pet Shop, Moosejaw, The Yoga Shelter, Panera Bread, the G.P. Music Academy, G.P. Art Center, Do By Hair, Sanders, Kroeger and more!
Mr. Takis comes to Grosse Pointe South with much experience and success via the Warren Lincoln School District and Michigan State University. We are delighted to have him in the GPPS district and to continue the long tradition and excellence of the South High School Bands.
Admission includes all pastries. General admission is $15, Seniors-$10 and Students-$5. Children five and under attend free. Group table reservations are available. Tickets may be purchased online at www.gpsbo.org, Posterity in the Village, or by cash at the door.
