Terri Lynn Land to Speak at Detroit Dinner

Terri Lynn Land, candidate for U.S. Senate and Michigan Secretary of State from 2003 to 2010, will address the annual Eastside Republican Club-PAC dinner at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 8, at Sindbad’s in Detroit.

“Terri is a strong supporter of real health care reform, lower costs, expanded access, and freedom of Michigan families to choose their insurance plans and doctors,” said John Stempfle, chairman of the sponsoring Eastside Republican Club political action committee.

“She has many friends in Southeast Michigan, and we look forward to hearing how she would contribute to representing Michigan in the Senate.”

The buffet dinner event begins at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 8, in the Sohar Room at Sindbad’s Restaurant & Marina, 100 St. Clair Street, Detroit 48214.

Ticket Information
Stempfle added, “It’s open to the public, but because seating is limited, reservations are required.” For reservations or more information contact Stempfle at 885-0781.

According to Stempfle, proceeds will be used to support local GOP candidates during the 2014 general election. Tickets for the event are $50 per person.

In addition to Stempfle, P.A.C. committee members include John Chouinard, Carol Hackleman, Lita M. McKeehan, Jeffrey Neilson, Jenny Nolan, and Linda R. Solterisch.

Land's Service
Land served two terms as Michigan's 41st Secretary of State. With her message of improving customer service for the taxpayers, she was elected in 2002 with the largest margin in an open seat race in a generation, and again in 2006 by historic margins.

Ensuring quality customer service through efficiency, innovation, and technology drove Land's agenda as Secretary of State. Accomplishments include expanding online service options, revolutionizing the branch office structure to create shorter lines for customers, and implementing more secure and accurate election equipment across the state.

Prior to serving as Secretary of State, Land served as Kent County clerk from 1992-2000, a time of significant change and growth for Michigan's fourth largest county. In that position, she focused on making county government open and accessible to the public.

Land's political involvement stretches back to high school, when she served as a "scatter blitzer" for the Gerald R. Ford for President campaign. In 1978, she was one of the youngest attendees at the Republican State Convention in Michigan.

Heavy involvement with community organizations is also one of Secretary Land's hallmarks. She currently serves as a board member for Gift of Life of Michigan, on the Board of Directors of Michigan Protection and Advocacy Services, Inc., and as a Commissioner on the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Board.

Family and Education
Land is most proud of her family. In 1983, she married Dan Hibma and the couple have two children. They attend Corinth Reformed Church in Byron Center.

She received a bachelor of arts in political science from Hope College. In 2007, she was presented an Honorary Doctor of Public Service by Central Michigan University, and in 2009, Davenport University presented her an Honorary Doctor of Laws.
