Rotary lunch meeting
Rotary of Grosse Pointe meets at noon Monday, April 16 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Lunch costs $15 and the public is invited to join us. Rotarian Michael Carmody will speak about his experiences leading a 6-person team of midwives and pharmacists to a five week venture in Northern Australia and East Timor as part of Rotary International’s new “Vocational Training Teams” project. Mike will show a very interesting video of his group’s trip and tell about the issues facing East Timor, which he describes as a “fourth world” country.” Our literacy book drive continues. The drop off center is at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, 16 Lake Shore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms. The center is open on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, beginning this month. The entrance is at the rear of the Church building. Additional information about the Rotary Club of Grosse Pointe is available on the Internet at www.grossepointerotary.org and information about our Rotary District can be found at www.rotary6400.org.
At the April 2 meeting of Rotary of Grosse Pointe, George Bulanda, Managing Editor of Hour Detroit magazine, gave a talk about his newest book, volume two of The Way it Was, which highlights Detroit over the past 120 years. Highlights from the book and historical information about several interesting sites were presented.
