Residents SPEAK OUT AGAINST $50 Million TECH BOND!he GPPSS has irresponsibly jeopardized the financing of critically needed technology infrastructure and equipment by adding unnecessary expenditures to the bond proposal.

The overreaching $50,280,000 bond proposal:

  • Raises local school taxes 23%.  GPPSS is already premium-funded; GPPSS levies double the mills as the statewide average, and local tax yield-per-pupil is third highest in the state.
  • Expects taxpayers to fund over $9,000,000 to provide iPads, tablets or laptops for every grade 3-12 student – a fiscally irresponsible model.
  • Fails to make maximum use of cloud computing options as other school districts and businesses are doing as a cost effective measure.
  • Obscures the increased staffing/support costs necessary to train, manage and service an in-house computer network – costs which negatively impact our operating budget and ultimately, class size.
  • Leaves taxpayers with little to show for their 10-year investment but outdated technology and a likely request for additional funding.
Voters should reject the $50,280,000 bond proposal and demand that the GPPSS develop a moderate and responsible technology plan which meets the needs of our students, prepares them for the future, and is affordable for our community.
