Halloween in the Park

Grosse Pointe Park will host "Halloween in the Park" on Saturday, Oct. 27 starting at 4:30 p.m.

This exciting costumed event is for young children and elementary school students.  The picnic grounds at Windmill Pointe Park will turn into a festive pathway of hay that leads from candy station to candy station, all decorated uniquely.

Trick-or-treating begins promptly at 4:30 p.m. and will end at 6:00 p.m.  Trick-or-treaters may select arrival times of 4:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m., or 5:30 p.m.  (Trick-or-treaters must arrive before 5:45 p.m. in order to get through all of the stations.)

Tickets MUST be purchased in advance ($6.00 per child) and will be on sale from Oct. 1-26 at the outside gatehouse at Windmill Pointe Park.  Tickets sold on the day of the event up until 2:00 p.m. will cost $12.00.  Every child trick-or-treating must be in a costume and accompanied by an adult.  Trick-or-treat bags will not be provided.  Please bring your own.

Volunteers are needed for this event!  Sign up to have a station at Halloween In The Park!  Use your creative talents to set up a Halloween scene with pumpkins, scarecrows, tombstones, spooky themes and characters, and other festive ideas.  Candy will be provided by the Parks & Recreation Department for you to give out at your station.

Volunteering is a great way to be part of the excitement, even if you don't have any ghosts or goblins of your own.  Decorating of stations will take place on the day of the event starting at 3:00 p.m. and must be completed by 4:00 p.m.  A complimentary movie ticket will be given to all volunteers.  If interested, please call the Parks & Recreation office at 822-2812, ext. 201.

Trick or Treating in the Village

Witches, goblins and superheroes will be on Kercheval this Halloween as hundreds of Grosse Pointe kids participate in the annual Trick or Treating in The Village. Village businesses will pass out treats Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., and a costume contest for kids will take place at 4:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the scariest, most original and best overall costume.

The Friends of the Grosse Pointe Library, which will be set up at the corner of Kercheval and St. Clair, will distribute age-appropriate, free books as part of its annual Trick or Read program that encourages children to read.

Kercheval Avenue from Neff to Cadieux will be closed to traffic from approximately 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Trick or Treating in The Village is produced by the Grosse Pointe Village Association in cooperation with the City of Grosse Pointe. For additional information, visit www.thevillagegp.com or call 313-886-7474.

Trick-or-Treating on Halloween, Oct. 31

All Pointes cities have recommended trick-or-treating hours of approximately 6 - 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.  Trick or treaters are asked observe that when porch or outside lights are not illuminated, the residents are not participating in trick-or-treating.

Drivers please slow down and be extra vigilant during these hours on Halloween as there will be many children on the streets and sidewalks during this time.
