DELTA AIR LINES EXPANDS THEIR SUPPORT FOR FREEDOM CENTER

Delta Air Lines has expanded their support for the Freedom Center military lounge at Detroit Metropolitan Airport with a financial donation of $10,000.

“Delta Air Lines has been a key supporter in a variety of ways to the Freedom Center military lounge since we opened our doors in November 2011,” said Grosse Pointe Woods resident John McCandless, vice president of the Michigan Armed Forces Hospitality Center, Inc., the non-profit organization which operates Freedom Center.  “Their $10,000 donation will greatly enhance our continuing operations, while their in-kind donations will continue to enhance the experience enjoyed by traveling members of our military and their families.”

With the donation, Delta Air Lines joins Meritor, Inc., The Masco Foundation, The National Defense Industrial Association and the Michigan Business Travel Association as a major financial supporter of Freedom Center.

Currently starting its third year of operations, Freedom Center has hosted over 80,000 traveling members of our military, their families and veterans.  Open 365 days a year, Freedom Center is located adjacent to Gate A43 in the center of the McNamara Terminal.  Staffed by volunteers, Freedom Center provides military travelers with a quiet, comfortable oasis and complimentary snacks, beverages and travel amenities.  When weather delays leave military travelers stranded, Freedom Center remains open overnight.

“We are most grateful for this generous donation by Delta Air Lines,” McCandless said.  “It will be of great assistance to our continuing operation and future growth.”
