INTERNATIONAL PROPELLER CLUB DINNER TO COMMEMORATE SINKING OF SS EDMUND FITZGERALD

The International Propeller Club, Port of Detroit will mark the anniversary of the loss of all 29 crew members of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald with a special program at their November dinner meeting at Sindbad’s Restaurant on Wednesday, November 13.

The SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior in a violent gale on the evening of November 10, 1975.  When launched in 1958, she was the largest ship in the Great Lakes and remains the largest to have sunk there.  For 17 years, she carried taconite iron ore from mines near Duluth, Minn. to iron works in Detroit, Toledo and other Great Lake ports.  She sank in the midst of a severe winter storm in Canadian waters some 15 nautical miles from the entrance to Whitefish Bay with a loss of all 29 hands.
