VETERAN SERVICE ORGANIZATION SEEKS GROSSE POINTE MEMBERS

Unlike many towns, the Grosse Pointes no longer have an active veterans post/clubhouse, although a chartered American Legion post still exists and meets monthly at a restaurant in Grosse Pointe Park.  The VFW post in Grosse Pointe City existed until the late 1960's, but was torn down long ago.

But just outside the Grosse Pointe Woods border, AMVETS Post 57 at Allard and the I-94 Service Drive is thriving and has many Grosse Pointe veterans as members.  And while its building, which includes a member's clubroom as well as rental halls, is in Harper Woods, its parking lot on Allard Road is actually in Grosse Pointe Woods!

AMVETS membership is open to all veterans who served honorably in our armed forces.  In addition, Post 57, like many other posts, has a very active AMVETS Auxiliary, open to spouses and daughters of veterans, an active Sons of AMVETS, open to children of veterans and a Junior AMVETS student chapter as well.

AMVETS, like the VFW, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans and others, is a veterans service organization and dedicated to support our veterans.  AMVETS mission statement:  To enhance and safeguard the entitlements for all American Veterans who have served honorably and improve the quality of life for them, their families, and the communities where they live through leadership, advocacy and services.

In addition to their mission of supporting veterans, Post 57 hosts a variety of monthly social events in their clubroom.  The clubroom is open to members from noon daily.

Veterans interested in exploring joining AMVETS are encouraged to stop in the clubroom to obtain details.
