Bayne Optical to host style show focusing on fashion, eye health and a great cause

Bayne Optical to host style show focusing on fashion, eye health and a great cause. May 4, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Village.

Fun, fashion, eye-health awareness and a little fundraising are at the heart of Bayne Optical’s first-ever sunglass style show, 11 a.m-3 p.m., May 4 at the 16841 Kercheval Place store.

Dr. Mike Lowe, owner of Bayne Optical, said in addition to presenting some fashion-forward frames, the event will raise awareness of the importance of wearing sunglasses for good eye heath. “Everybody should have sun protection for their eyes,” Lowe said. “Yet, less than 9 percent of the population wears adequate protective eyewear,” he said.  “Here on the east side with all of our sailors and water sports, it’s crucial to keep eyes protected – and not everybody knows that.”

The Luau-themed event will showcase the latest trends in sunglasses, with representatives and styles from Prada, Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Coach and Oakley on hand. There will also be special discounts - with up to 50-percent savings.

Lowe’s 10-year-old daughter Amanda asked if she could also take part in the event by raising awareness to a cause near to her heart. She and some St. Joan of Arc schoolmates are working on a donation bucket to encourage event attendees to consider a small contribution to the international charity Free the Children – an organization that works to empower youth to remove barriers that prevent them from being active local and global citizens.

“It’ll be a fun event,” said Lowe. There will be food and drinks and an outdoor tent at the store’s entry on Kercheval Place. The store entrance is located behind the Kercheval Avenue shops, right next to City Kitchen’s rear entrance. The style show and designer reps will be in an upstairs space located directly above the Bayne Optical store.
