A few things to know about what is happening in the Grosse Pointes this week.

A few things to know for this week in the Grosse Pointes:

1. The week is beginning with some of the coldest temperatures of the season thus far. Today the high is forecasted to reach 20 and the clouds will move in at night. There is a chance of snow Wednesday and the temperatures will slowly warm throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Rubbish collection is delayed by one day for most of the Grosse Pointes due to the observance of New Year's Day on Monday. This means trash pick up is shifted throughout the week.

3. City Council has a special meeting scheduled for Thursday Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. An agenda is not yet available, but the council agreed to call a special meeting to make a decision about a proposed amendment to their contract with Detroit Water Department that will likely raise their rates significantly. City Manager Brian Vick said if progress had been made with the , he provide them an update at the special meeting as well.

4. The monthly emergency alert sirens will be tested Saturday in and Grosse Pointe Shores. The test begins at 1 p.m. and is brief in length.

5. resume Wednesday Jan. 4 following winter break. Keep an eye out for the early morning traffic of students and staff.
