There are several events in the Grosse Pointes happening this week worth knowing about.

Here are a few important events in the Grosse Pointes happening this week:

1. The city council will meet beginning at 7 p.m. Monday. According to the agenda, the council will discuss the following:

  • The transfer of $5,000 from the general fund to the prisoner food account, which has been depleted from more than $12,000 to $475 this year. becuase of the increased efforts to follow up on traffic offense warrants and others who have skipped out on court
  • The opening of the Lake Front Park pool to be completed by B & B Pools for $7,250.
  • A bid for mulch to be spread in all of the city's flower beds from Bedrock Maintenance Services of Ortonville for $13,945.
  • The hiring of financial advisors from Bendzinski & Co, of Detroit, to oversee the on-going paperwork to be shared with the state on an upcoming sewer project.
  • A resolution asking the Michigan Public Service Commission to complete a thorough study of smart meters following a presentation to the council during their last meeting by residents expressing a variety of concerns about health and privacy issues. The resolution, if approved, will be delivered to Sen. Bert Johnson, Rep. Tim Bledsoe and to officials from each of the other Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods.

The Woods council is also planning to go into a closed session to discuss pending litigation.

2. The city council is scheduled to have a work session Monday beginning at 7 p.m. An agenda is not published on the city's website for the session but it is listed on the city's online calendar.

3. The city council will meet Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. According to the agenda, the council will discuss the following:

  • A feasibility study for the move to Macomb Ad Hoc committee.
  • Invitations to bid for engineering, legal and insurance services to the Shores.
  • The Shores telephone system, which has already been reported as the problem related to the consolidated dispatch with the Shores concerning non-emergency calls.
  • The city computer, which became an issue last week when councilman Dan Schulte wanted access to the former city manager's computer and called a special council meeting with Robert Barrette when he was unable to gain access. The special meeting did not happen as no other council members came to the meeting.
  • Residential water billing mailing.

The Grosse Pointe Shores council will also discuss a legal opinion regarding in a closed session.

4. The Grosse Pointe Shores finance committee will meet Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. just before city council meets. According to the agenda, the finance committee will discuss:

  • Requests for proposals for legal, insurance and other services.
  • A budget timeline.
  • A water rate review.

The finance committee will also enter a closed session to discuss the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. The agenda is not any more specific about what the discussion will be or whether it relates to the water billing issue.

5. The Grosse Pointe Woods planning commission will meet Wednesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. According to the agenda, the commissioners will continue discussion about the 2020 plan for the city.

6. The Board policy committee will meet Monday beginning at 6 p.m. at the administration building on St. Clair Street.
