Rapture/Shmapture: We need everyone here to help out!

Just some random thoughts on the last week or two:

I am currently engaged in listing a Top 10 End of The World/Rapture song countdown on Facebook. It's a tongue-in-cheek response to FamilyRadio's nationwide campaign to make everyone aware that the Rapture is going to occur this Saturday. I do not mean to judge anyone or espouse or disparage any one faith, but it seems to me that focusing all this energy on leaving this world is time and money wasted...especially now, when we need everyone here to fix the problems that we have on Earth. Instead of selling all of our possessions and trying to get our story straight as we stand in line at the Pearly Gates, we should try to solve the problems we have  instead of trying to escape from them. Imagine how much good that money used for all that Rapture advertising could have done for the poor and the hungry!

For all those curious, here are my top 5 Rapture songs:

On a sort of related note, my wife and I recently visited the , and loved the people and the message of inclusion and community involvement. Regardless of your faith (or non-faith) I recommend it. It was good to hear such a positive message of unity, both religious and cultural,  in our society that all to often seems bitterly divided.

I've posted on the mom's blog and written Representative Tim Bledsoe about the proposed changes to the GP school district and school funding in general, and the impact Governor Snyder's cost cutting measures may have on our school system.  I think it's important we give this our keenest attention. We cannot shortchange ourchildren's future for cheaper car parts and lower gas prices.

Summer beer season is almost here, and I'm looking forward to all the Kolschbiers, wheat beers, and IPA's making their way to GP. There's nothing better after a day of yard work than a nice cool Hoegaarden! Of course, I am still waiting with an anxious palate the introduction of New Belgium Brewing (of Fat Tire fame) to Michigan...just another of the myriad reasons to hope the Rapture comes later rather than sooner!

I would love to hear fellow parents stories about their toddler's choice of toys...despite being surrounded by what seems to be thousands of dollars worth of toys, my son without fail gravitates towards coffee cups, dirty shoes, power cords, and remote controls. So to stimulate his creativity, I've made a toy out of an empty Sprite bottle, a block of wood, and a plastic grape container. Of course,  he loves them.

Have a good weekend everyone...I hope it isn't our last!
