Community to Gather to Celebrate Dale Buss, A Leader in the Hockey Community

Dale Buss, who was a hockey coach, philanthropist and community leader, died Aug. 17. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at Civic Arena.

The St. Clair Shores Hockey Association will hold a memorial service and celebration of the life Dale Buss at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Clair Shores Civic Arena.

Buss, 64, of Grosse Pointe Shores, died on Saturday, August 17, in Traverse City

Buss was a staple in the hockey community, having coached for 47 years along with being the chairman of the Silver Stick tournaments held at Civic Arena which attracts local, national and international teams.

"We are shocked and saddened and he will be missed dearly. Our hearts are heavy. Dale has been an intricate part of our association's success," Paul Doppke
SCSHA president, wrote on the association's Facebook page. "The philanthropy efforts he demonstrated throughout his life are remarkable. His intelligence and unselfish heart shined through in everything he was involved with. He has touched so many people's lives in a positive way. He helped build confidence, strong morals, values and ethics in many of our children's lives."

He coached the Saints' Midget A team last season to a MAHA State title and a runner-up finish at Nationals at Troy in April, according to an article published by Hockey Weekly.

Survivors include sisters Diana Phillips and Darlene Furrer, and brothers David Buss and Dennis Buss. 

Hockey attire is encouraged to be worn for those attending the service.
