With mixed feelings and after considerable deliberation I have decided not to seek re-election to another term on the Grosse Pointe Woods City Council. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to serve. The experience has been far more rewarding than originally imagined.
Actually it is this experience that prompts me to seek other opportunities to serve. There is so much to be done. The nature of public service leads to frustrations from time to time, but it provides an opportunity to look back with pride on being a part of so many accomplishments.
Many issues are out there seeking solutions. I often wonder about whether more open and public discussion of issues could help identify potential alternative solutions. Our financial future remains unclear. New cost effective measures must be identified. New sources of revenue need to replace the 25% loss of property taxes.
And finally, I move on to other opportunities knowing the recent additions of a new City Administrator, Treasurer/Comptroller and Public Safety Director have put this City in very capable hands.
