$17,500 in Jewelry, Silverware Stolen from Handy Road Home

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the burglary believed to have happened in middle of the day.

An 82-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman discovered her house had been burglarized May 5 after finding a watch box on the floor and missing jewelry from her jewelry box, including her wedding ring.

Farms police are investigating the burglary of the home in the 80 block of Handy Road during which $17,500 worth of jewelry and silverware was stolen.

According to a police report, the woman originally thought her husband dropped the box on the floor but when she went to retrieve her wedding ring it was missing. She then noticed other jewelry missing, and her son discovered the entire set of Gorham Chantilly silverware was missing too.

Detective Lt. Richard Rosati said suspects are being pursued and thus far, investigators do not believe this burglary is related to the burglary of a Touraine Road burglary in which three teenagers were questioned.

In that burglary two televisions were stolen but the crime was immediately reported when a teenage resident discovered the break-in.
