3 Stolen Cars Recovered, Drunk Driver Arrested

The following information is gathered by the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a woman April 19 at Lake Shore and Kerby roads for drunk driving after she was spotted swerving in and out of her lane of traffic. The woman had slurred speech, could not successfully complete field sobriety tests and refused to take a portable breath test. The woman was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw after officers obtained a search warrant from the judge. The woman was initially charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This is the second time she's been arrested for this offense, according to a report. 

Damage to Car Questioned

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating damage to a car parked in the Village parking structure in which the car's owner believes there was an attempt to steal his catalytic converter. The owner returned to his car less than two hours after parking it April 15 to find his muffler cut, according to a report.

Surveillance Doesn't Deter Car Break-In 

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating the theft of a backpack from a car parked in Staples parking lot April 11. The backpack had gym clothes, a book and an mp3 player in it. The car belonged to an employee and was broken into during the man's shift at Staples. Police had been in the lot doing surveillance for much of the day and night, with only a brief break. The exact time of the crime is not known as the employee discovered his back window smashed out when he finished his shift for the day, according to a report.

3 Stolen Car Recovered

City of Grosse Pointe police assisted Detroit Police in with a stolen car case after a woman flagged them down April 9 with information. The woman reported to officers that her son's car had been stolen from Eastpointe the night before and his cell phone was stolen because it was in the car. While trying to find the cell phone, the woman was given an address by the cell phone company on Woodhall Street in Detroit. She was waiting for Detroit Police to arrive to help when she flagged down a Grosse Pointe officer. Three stolen cars were recovered from the address, according to a report.
