School officials found the electronics missing upon arriving for school one morning, he said. Demartini said the thefts were discovered immediately by staff because the equipment was kept in obvious locations.

Thefts of valuable school property such as this are not common, Hutchins said. More often, thefts at schools involve personal property of students or staff, he said, noting the department also has in its jurisdiction. Several other schools—private and public—are also located within the Farms.

At least three police reports were filed regarding the thefts at Grosse Pointe Academy and Demartini said the school has never had a theft of this kind. All of the thefts occurred outside of traditional school hours and employees are being more cognizant of the building, he said.

The thefts did not cause a disruption to students and one of the televisions has already been replaced. Eventually they'll all be replaced, Demartini said.

The school is working closely with Farms police, he said.
