Man Arrested in Attempted Purse Snatching Case; Pleads Not Guilty

The following information is gathered from the Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

A 19-year-old Detroit man is being held in connection with an attempted purse snatching in June 18. City of Grosse Pointe Judge Russell Ethridge for his arrest last week. 

Casada Sorrell is being held on a $5,000 bond. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment before Grosse Pointe Park Judge Carl Jarboe and is scheduled to return to court Aug. 3 for a preliminary exam. 

Park Sgt. David Loch said Sorrell, who had been hiding out from the police, was arrested by the Macomb County Sheriff's Department in an unrelated case. The warrant from Grosse Pointe Park was served to him in jail and then he was turned over to the custody of a Park officer, Loch said. The nature of the other case is not known.

Sorrell is accused of June 18. He allegedly ran from the woman after she resisted.

Police are still investigating that happened in the middle of the night June 6. In that case, which police believe is unrelated to Sorrell, a man likely planning to steal an unsecured bicycle from a porch instead stole a purse from a woman arriving home by herself.
