Bob Bashara's Bond Reduction Motion Denied

Circuit Court Judge Bruce Morrow denies a request for a reduction in Bob Bashara's $15 million cash-only bond.

Bob Bashara will remain in Wayne County Jail after Circuit Court Judge Bruce Morrow denied Bashara’s motion for a bond reduction Monday, according to a court document. (See Judge's official ruling in story images).

Bashara’s attorney, Mark Kriger, requested his client’s bond be reduced from his current $15 million cash-only bond to $500,000 with a 10 percent provision, meaning Bashara would have paid $50,000 to be released until his case went to trial. Kriger also said his client was willing to put up an apartment building he owns in St. Clair Shores for collateral and other concessions like surrendering his passport and driver’s license.

In his arguments Thursday, Kriger said that the current bond was unreasonable and only meant to keep his client behind bars until trial.

Deputy Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey argued against any reduction in Bashara’s $15 million bond. Lindsey said Bob Bashara had reduced ties to family and friends in the community now and that his large real estate portfolio, valued in the millions of dollars, made him a flight risk.

In a Detroit Free Press article Monday, Kriger refused to comment on Judge Morrow’s ruling saying, “I don’t feel it’s appropriate to comment on pending cases.”
