Birmingham Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Pointe Stop

A 26-year-old Detroit man stopped for driving a stolen vehicle in Grosse Pointe is wanted for a bank robbery in Birmingham.

A license plate check by a City of Grosse Pointe patrol officer led to the arrest of a Detroit man wanted , Detective Christopher J. Lee said. 

Andre Davon Christian, 26, is suspected of taking $4,000 from the at the corner of Woodward and Maple on Dec. 3. He has been returned to Oakland County for arraignment.

He was arrested near Mack and Rivard on Tuesday afternoon after trying to flee from the patrol officer trying to perform a traffic stop. The officer checked the license plate of the Pontiac G-6 as it drove past, discovering the car had been reported stolen from Hazel Park, Lee said.

Officers from the City, Grosse Pointe Park and Detroit were on the scene Tuesday, where at least two people stood handcuffed surrounded by police cars. 

Three people were in the car, Lee said. One was released at the scene, another was a teenage runaway who was taken to juvenile detention downtown and the third, Christian, was arrested. He lied to police about his identity at first but the truth was revealed after he was fingerprinted, Lee said.

Grosse Pointe is not filing any criminal charges against Christian, but he was to be picked up Wednesday afternoon by Birmingham police for an outstanding warrant for bank robbery, Lee said. 

Hazel Park officials are planning to handle the charges stemming from the stolen car, Lee said.
