Burglary, Thefts from Vehicles Under Investigation in Grosse Pointe Park

The following is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating the burglary of a vacant home in the 1100 block of Beaconsfield in which a neighbor saw three men running away Saturday. A K9 officer was used to search for the men but they were not found. The three men were reported by the neighbor shortly before 7 p.m. May 5. There is not believed to have been any loss as a result, according to a report. 

Series of Thefts from Vehicles 

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating a series of thefts from vehicles.

  • A tactical flashlight was stolen from a car parked in the driveway of a home in the 1400 block of Maryland May 2 about 2:30 a.m. The car's owner spotted a man standing next to his car with the door ajar, yelled to him and the man ran from the scene. The car owner provided police with a description, according to a repor.
  • In the next case, about $50 in change and $850 in jewelry was stolen from a car parked in the 1300 block of Somerset. The car was locked and parked in a driveway. The theft happened overnight May 1 to May 2, according to a report.
  • The same night, a GPS unit was stolen from another car parked in its driveway also in the 1400 block of Maryland. The car was locked, according to a report. 
  • A wallet was reported stolen from a car in the 1300 block of Wayburn overnight from May 1 to 2. The following day, a person called the wallet's owner saying it had been found. The person dropped the wallet off to the police department, according to a report. 
  • In another case, a jump start kit and tool bag were stolen from the bed of a truck in the 1400 block of Berkshire May 3 between 10 to 11 p.m. The truck was parked in the driveway, according to a report.
  • In the last case, on May 4, police arrested a 50-year-old man shortly after 5 a.m. for stealing an MP3 player and about $8.70 in change from a car parked in the 1400 block of Berkshire. The man was stopped for prowling and officers discovered he had burglary tools on him. He admitted to breaking into the car on Berkshire and was charged with larceny from an automobile, according to a report.
