DeWulf Homicide Investigation Remains Active

A variety of leads are being investigated actively in shooting death of a Grosse Pointe Woods man found inside his home in November.

Grosse Pointe Woods detectives are busy with the investigation into the homicide of Donald DeWulf, Woods Director of Public Safety Andrew Pazuchowski said Friday.

DeWulf's body was found inside his home in the 2000 block of Hampton Road in late November. He died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office.

In a brief update Friday, Pazuchowski said detectives are "very actively pursuing leads" in DeWulf's case.

There is not any specific informtion that Pazuchowski wants to release now as he does not want to compromise the case, he said.

However, he's fielded some questions about the public's perception of the case as being inactive, he said. He explained that "just because people are not hearing about it," does not mean it's inactive.

Quite the opposite is true. Pazuchowski said the detectives are working on a variety of leads and are in touch with DeWulf's family on a weekly basis.

The case has received little attention in the media as compared to the January 2012 strangulation death of Jane E. Bashara, which received national media attention.

Bashara's death had been the first homicide in the Pointes in years and DeWulf's is the first homicide in the Woods in years.

As investigators continue trying to identify what happened, for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
