Domestic Battery Erupts at Pancake House, Moves Down Mack Avenue

A domestic dispute erupted inside the Sunday leaving the restaurant in disarray and leading to the arrest of a 33-year-old Detroit man near Mack and Allard avenues a short time later by Grosse Pointe Woods police. 

The man was having lunch with a woman at the restaurant Sunday afternoon when his ex-girlfriend approached the table, Detective Sgt. Raymond Yonkowski said. The pair began arguing and the fight escalated when he punched the woman in the face. During the scuffle, plates were thrown and tables and chairs were knocked over, Yonkowski said. 

Responding officers found employees cleaning the restaurant, including its windows after the pair and the man's lunch mate left. Officers also found blood in the bathroom sink as well as sprayed on a mirror and walls, Yonkowski said. The woman was being treated at an area hospital. 

Witnesses told police everyone involved left the restaurant and gave the man's direction of travel. A short time later, officers spotted his vehicle driving on Mack Avenue near Allard Avenue and performed a traffic stop, Yonkowski said. 

His arrest was notable to passersby, as several Grosse Pointe Woods and Harper Woods officers responded to the scene. 

The 33-year-old man is charged with domestic battery and is being held by Grosse Pointe Woods police, Yonkowski said.
