Drug Take-Back Tuesday at Local Police Stations

The Grosse Pointe Park and Grosse Pointe Woods police departments will hold drug take-backs Tuesday.

The Michigan Green Teams in partnership with Beaumont Community Health Coalition will hold a prescription drug take-back day Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Grosse Pointe Park and Grosse Pointe Woods police stations.

The goal of the drug take-back is get unused and expired medications out of the home. According to a release, children or pets can accidentally ingest medications discarded in the garbage. Also, prescription drug abuse is the fastest growing problem in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Additionally, the drug take-back program assists the Grosse Pointe Schools Green Program by keeping drugs out of the waterways. The public is encouraged to not flush prescriptions down a toilet.

Those looking to bring expired, or unwanted, medications are asked to remove pills from bottles and combine together in an unmarked/unlabeled container such as a Ziplock bag. 

Controlled substances and syringes will not be accepted.
