Drunk Driving, Speeding, Suspended License End in Traffic Stops in Grosse Pointe Shores

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 21-year-old Melvindale man March 20 for driving on a suspended driver's license after stopping his car and one other for speeding down Lake Shore and throwing items out of the vehicles at each other. During the traffic stop related to the throwing items out of the car, the officer discovered the man had a suspended driver's license. Three cars had been traveling together down Lake Shore Road when a caller alerted police to the problematic situation in the roadway, according to a report.

Speeding Blamed on Other Motorists

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 37-year-old Lake Orion woman March 20 for reckless driving after she was spotted driving 60 miles per hour. An officer tried to stop the woman near Edgewood and Lake Shore but she continued driving, eventually stopping near Willison Road. She told officers she was trying to get away from two vehicles that were following her but according to the report, no one was following her. She was arrested and a family member was contacted, according to a report.

Suspicious Men Reported

Grosse Pointe Shores police were called to the 40 block of North Deeplands March 19 about 9:45 p.m. by a resident who noticed two young men wearing hoodies standing outside his neighbor's house. The men ran from the house to a tan-colored older model Sable or Taurus. Officers responded but did not find the car or the men, according to a report.

Drunk Driver Arrested

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 37-year-old Madison Heights man March 17 for drunk driving after he was stopped because his trailer was not marked properly with lights. During the traffic stop, the officer noticed the man smelled of alcohol. Before administering field sobriety tests, the officer discovered the man was carrying a .32 caliber handgun. He had a 0.12 percent blood alcohol content and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of narcotic equipment,  according to a report.
