Update: Men Arrested in Farms Suspected in More Than 20 Crimes

The men admitted to stealing items from vehicles and stealing a minivan following their arrest. The following information is gathered from the Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Detectives believe the two men arrested by overnight are responsible for more than 20 crimes spanning about two weeks, Director Dan Jensen said.

The men were arrested overnight in connection with a series of thefts, according to a release published at 2:26 a.m. Jensen said a patrol officer spotted the men--ages 17 and 18--walking on the street. When he approached and talked with them, they began acting nervous and their stories did not make sense, Jensen said.

They told the officer they did not know each other's last names, where they were or where they were headed, Jensen said. This led the officer to investigate further and during a pat down for weapons, he found several stolen items such as cell phones, Jensen said.

Police are still trying to sort out to whom the stolen materials belong, Jensen said, but they are from crimes committed overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. Items stolen from parked vehicles and the stolen cars that happened before Wednesday have not yet been recovered.

The men admitted to targeting a few vehicles in the area of Chalfonte and Barclay following their arrest, according to the release.

Jensen said detectives from the City interviewed the men early Thursday and they are connected to those crimes as well.

Most recently, a Jeep Cherokee was stolen June 27 from the parking lot of Caribou Coffee on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods. The SUV was parked behind the building,  unlocked and with its driver's side window down. The owner reported it stolen between 6 to 10 p.m.
