Grosse Pointe Farms Police Investigating Early Morning Car Break-In at Coffee Shop

Thief's timing brazen, police say, noting early morning hours in a busy coffee shop parking lot.

police are investigating an early morning car break-in in the parking lot of a Mack Avenue coffee shop. The thief got away with a radio and left a pile of broken glass in the lot.

Although police don't know of any witnesses to the crime, they have a suspect, Detective Lt. Richard Rosati said. The car break-in happened about 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of .

The vehicle was parked in a spot behind the building near the corner of their parking lot. Rosati said it was evident the thief is skilled at performing such crimes because it happened quickly and happened without catching the attention of anyone.

The break-in was discovered by the vehicle's owner upon leaving the coffee shop. She had been inside for about 30 minutes. Despite not having witnesses, Rosati said detectives are pursuing a man spotted bicycling in the area whom only an hour earlier had been reported as acting suspicious by a Farms resident driving down Mack Avenue. Responding officers were unable to find the suspicious man, he said.

However, a bicyclist whom they believe to be the same man the resident reported acting suspicious was caught on video near Biggby close in time to the crime, Rosati said.

"He was pretty brazen," Rosati said, noting how the thief targeted the parking lot of a coffee shop in daylight during a traditionally busy time for such businesses. 

Detectives are also investigating whether this break-in is roads. A vehicle was stolen from one home and cars of two others were broken into.
