Grosse Pointe Police Cancel Alert for Possible Home Invasion Suspect (Update)

The City of Grosse Pointe Public Safety Department has canceled an alert concerning a home invasion suspect.

City of Grosse Pointe police have canceled an alert concerning a home invasion suspect, according to a statement issued on Nixle.

Grosse Pointe Sgt. Michael Seidel said the man fled from two officers and is no longer in the area.

Seidel added that it was unclear if a home invasion actually took place.

According to an earlier Nixle report, police had said a home invasion suspect was on the loose in the area of Neff and Lakeland between Charlevoix and Mack on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the incident occurred on University and that the suspect—described as a 6-foot, 3-inch black male wearing dark clothing and possibly a light-colored shirt—was believed to be hiding in the area.

Any suspicious behavior should be reported to City of Grosse Pointe Department of Public Safety at 313-886-3200.

NOTE: This story was updated on Dec. 4 at 4:55 p.m. to note that the alert has been canceled. This story was updated again on Dec. 4 at 5:25 p.m. to add additional details from the City of Grosse Pointe Department of Public Safety.

Yes, but it said it was put into the system at 12:44 and I didn't receive the text until 3:45....a person sure could cover quite a bit of ground in 3 hours....

In broad daylight, nonetheless.
Stop and Frisk, please.

Julie, that is 12:44 PST, so it would have been issued at about 3:44 EST (Grosse Pointe).

On a related note, a Harper-Cadieux gas station apparently was robbed by way of AK-47 - see http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2012/12/05/robbers-with-ak-47s-hit-two-detroit-gas-stations/
We always advise our out of town guests to use the Moross exit.

Stop and frisk is sexual assault and an OBVIOUS violation of the 4th amendment. Our police department would never sink as low as the NYPD. We are still trying to live somewhat like free people. It is better to see a criminal go free than to see thousands of innocent people victimized by the state simply for existing. We cannot let fear force us into more idiotic decisions.
Todd December 13, 2012 at 07:48 pm
Nathan, maybe you can point your 4th amendment at the robbers so they remember to be extra fair with you?
There were two fine upstanding fellows in hoodies with a revolver that just robbed a jogger at Moran and Charlevoix at 2:00 this afternoon. Broad daylight in the heart of the neighborhood. Now what were you saying about fear forcing us to make idiotic decisions? I say we deal a little fear rather than live in it. Our Detroit neighbors seem to care very little about the GP departments these days.

Robert, I've been a huge booster for Pointe Hardware. Their prices are either in-line or better thanRead More big box and their service is amazing. You could probably do a home remodel by just leaching free advice from them.

I absolutely LOVE our local, in-the-park hardware store!! They have what I need, and their friendlyRead More staff know where to find what I need! I really can't stand the "new" Village Ace Hardware.
