Grosse Pointe Woods Police Looking for 2 Men in Bank Robbery

Citizens Bank at Mack and Stanhope was robbed this afternoon and the suspects drove away in a maroon minivan with a bag full of cash.

Grosse Pointe Woods police are looking for two men who robbed  at Mack Avenue and Stanhope Street shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday. The men brandished handguns during the robbery and drove away with a bag full of cash in a maroon minivan.

Officers were spotted surrounding the bank shortly before 1 p.m.—one with a gun drawn. The Detroit office of the FBI was called to the scene, Woods Public Safety Director Andrew Pazuchowski said.

A police vehicle remained outside of the corner facing the bank until after 3 p.m. The bank was corded off with yellow crime scene tape all afternoon and the branch was closed. A handwritten note hanging in both entrances told customers to go to a St. Clair Shores branch due to the closure.

According to a release written by Pazuchowski, the men entered the bank at 12:52 p.m. One man approached a teller and ordered her to the ground at gunpoint. He then jumped the service counter and filled a black bag with money.

Meanwhile, a customer entered the bank during the robbery and the second robber ordered the man to the ground at gunpoint.

No one was injured during the robbery and the men drove away from the bank in a newer model maroon minivan with tinted rear windows and a handicapped license plate. The exact make and model of the getaway van are not yet known, but detectives are trying to determine that information, Pazuchowski said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 313-343-2412.

Both men wore white cotton face masks during the robbery and both brandished stainless steel revolvers.

The first robber is described as about 5-foot-9 with a medium build, 25 to 35 years old, black with a beard. He was last seen wearing a gray jacket, dark pants and blue Converse All Star tennis shoes.

The second robber is described as about 5-foot-5 with a slim build, 30 to 40 years old and black. He was last seen wearing a red jacket, blue jeans and brown shoes.

Pazuchowski said police are trying to gather information from the bank's security video.
