Gunman Robs Mobil Station in Woods

Grosse Pointe Woods police say an armed man robbed the gas station on Vernier and Mack early Friday morning. Anyone with information is asked to call 313-343-2400.

A gunman robbed the Mobil gas station on Vernier and Mack early Friday morning, according to Grosse Pointe Woods police.

The man, who was wearing a scarf and ski mask, entered the store at about 5 a.m. Armed with a semiautomatic weapon, the man then ordered the clerk to raise his hands, according to a written release by Director Andrew Pazuchowski said.

He stole about $500 cash from the gas station, Det. Sgt. Raymond Yonkowski said. The man drove north on Mack Avenue when he left the station, he said.

The clerk, who was alone in the store, was not injured, according to the release.

Police describe the suspect as a black male about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and of medium build. He was wearing a black face mask, black scarf, black jacket, blue jeans and red gloves.

Police believe the man was also involved with a robbery of a 7-11 in Warren on Nine Mile and Schoenherr roads earlier Friday in which he stole a silver Dodge Dakota pickup truck with a license plate of NMT97.
