Hearing for Woods Councilman Charged With Drunk Driving Adjourned

The preliminary exam for a Grosse Pointe Woods councilman charged with drunk driving has been adjourned until Nov. 20.

The preliminary hearing for a Grosse Pointe Woods councilman charged with driving drunk in July was adjourned  Wednesday in Grosse Pointe Shores Municipal Court.

Grosse Pointe Woods Council Member Michael Koester was arrested in the early morning hours of July 6 for operating under the influence following an accident at Lake Shore and Shorecrest, according to a police report.

Police were called for an accident, and when an officer arrived, the officer found a downed streetlight, property damage and heavy front end damage to a 2004 Ford pickup.

The officer could smell an odor of "intoxicating liquor" on the driver - Koester - and administered a series of sobriety tests. He failed one of the tests, according to a report, and was given a PBT test and had a .111 blood alcohol level according a police report. 

He will return to court Nov. 20.
