A 31-year-old Hazel Park man, who was convicted of committing armed robbery in Grosse Pointe and Ferndale, was sentenced this week to 44 years in federal prison, authorities said.

Raynard Crowe, 31, was convicted March 21 on charges of bank robbery, pharmacy robbery, using a firearm during a crime of violence and felon in possession of a firearm and conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade announced.

Crowe, who was on parole for assault with intent to rob while armed, was found guilty of conspiring with six others in the armed robberies. The crew held up the Grosse Pointe Woods branch of Citizens Bank May 18, 2011 and Ferndale Pharmacy July 11, 2011, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

“Violent criminals who use guns can expect to face long prison sentences. Armed robberies risk a loss of life that we cannot tolerate," McQuade stated in a news release.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Foley also stated in the release, "Violent criminals who use guns to threaten lives during robberies and other crimes will face severe penalties for their illegal acts.
