MI Arson Prevention Offers Reward in Coins & Stamps Fire

Anyone with information is asked to call City of Grosse Pointe Department of Public Safety at 313-886-3200 or Arson Control at 1-800-44-ARSON about the fire that gutted Coins and Stamps earlier this month.

As investigators continue looking into the cause of , the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee has posted signs on the building offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and/or conviction in the case.

Public Safety Director Stephen Poloni told council Monday that officials are awaiting .

The cause of the fire has not officially been determined; however, investigators have strong suspicions the fire was set intentionally.

Poloni told the council he could not yet publicly say the fire is an arson as that is still under investigation but detectives are working the case diligently. Sgt. William Nicholson from Department of Public Safety is heading up the arson team investigating the fire that gutted Coins and Stamps early March 7.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to and prevented it from spreading into neighboring businesses, which share walls. The neighboring businesses— and —sustained smoke damage.

Crowther Carpet and Rugs has remained open while Henry's Cleaners has closed temporarily and has the door boarded shut with a sign telling customers to visit the St. Clair Shores location. Henry's Cleaners also moved all of their customers clothing to that location and re-cleaned it.

Members of council complimented the department Monday for being able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.
