Moran Road Gas Line Replacement by DTE Begins

The project is expected to take about two weeks to complete and began this morning in the 400 block of Moran Road in Grosse Pointe Farms.

Nearly one month after , the utility company has begun a two-week project during which the line is to be replaced.

The project began today, Nov. 1, and will close Moran Road in from Mack Avenue to Mount Vernon intermittenly, according to a release from Grosse Pointe Farms police. The closure could extend at times to Chalfont.

Replacing the gas line means heavy machinery will be traveling in the area and motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes.

Farms police are also encouraging residents to use safe practices around the gas line during the project, referring them to DTE's Natural Gas Safety Recommendations Page.

In early October, crews had been in the same block of Moran trying to seal off a pipe when it broke, resulting in the death of Thomas Issac, 50. Issac worked for the company for 20 years and was pronounced dead upon arriving to St. John Hospital emergency room.

Residents in the area said the gas leak in that block had been an on-again-off-again problem for several years. The workers arrival in early October was in response to residents believing the line was leaking again.
