New Court Dates Scheduled for Bob Bashara

Lawyers in the Bashara murder case met Thursday to set upcoming court dates for Bob Bashara, who is charged in his wife's murder.

Attorneys in the Jane Bashara murder case met Thursday and set new court dates in 36th District Court for Bob Bashara, who is charged in connection with the January 2012 strangulation death of his wife.

During the proceedings held before Judge Kenneth King,  a pre-examination conference date of Aug. 19 was set in 36th District Court. A preliminary examination was also set for Sept. 9.

Bashara, who was not present at the proceedings, has been arraigned on murder and five other charges related to death of his wife, Jane Bashara. The charges were brought about 15 months after her body was found in the backseat of her SUV in Detroit.

Bashara is currently serving a prison sentence on a second, related case involving his former handyman, Joe Gentz, whom he tried to have killed while in jail to prevent him from testifying.

Prison smuggling

As attorneys set the upcoming court schedule, Bashara is also being charged with  lying and being in possession of stolen property for taking items including ketchup packets, sugar packets, napkins and spoons at the Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee, according to a story in the Detroit Free Press. Bashara "lost all privileges for five days" after prison officials found he stole the items and lied about how he obtained the items, WDIV reported.
