Parcells Middle School Teachers Report Cash Thefts in Grosse Pointe Woods

The teachers reported the thefts to Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety after determining a suspect, who is a student.

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating a series of thefts from teachers at Parcells Middle School. About $328 was stolen from five teachers between the end of May and early June. The teachers collectively filed a police report June 14 after determining a suspect, according to the report.

The money was stolen at different times from purses and cabinets where teachers kept their personal belongings. All of it was stolen during different events at the school.

Most of it was stolen during an all-school assembly June 7, when a student asked to be excused to use the bathroom. Rather than using the bathrooms near the assembly, the student was spotted using the bathrooms near the rooms where the money was stolen.

Meanwhile, one of the teachers recalled similar crimes being reported last school year at Ferry Elementary, which is the school the student attended.

That teacher contacted a colleague from Ferry and found out that the same student was the suspect in the thefts from the teachers at Ferry, according to the report.

Teachers also reported seeing the student with a lot of cash when he was asked to pay a library fine, in the same denominations as what was stolen from one teacher the day it was stolen.

The teachers reported to police that they wish to pursue charges. All five from Parcells gave a statement and additional evidence was gathered related to the thefts at Ferry, according to a report.
